SPIRIT
OF INDEPENDENT FILMMAKING ALIVE IN
BRISTOL
Home of oldest Fourth of July celebration is
movie backlot for Kid Filmmakers
BRISTOL,
RI -- The parade floats and marching bands may be
gone but the spirit of independence still lingers
in Bristol, Rhode Island, nearly one month after
its 219th Annual Fourth of July Celebration. Kid
Filmmakers, the year-round traveling filmmaking
academy for ages 9-17, is declaring a revolutionary
week of independent filmmaking from Monday, August
2 thru Friday, August 6.
"From
its scenic waterfront to its historic architecture,
downtown Bristol is the perfect movie backlot for
our filmmaking camp," says founder and executive
director Eleyne Austen Sharp. "Our camps are
working production units and people will see Kid
Filmmakers operating the cameras, directing the
actors and even writing their own
scripts."
Following
a successful season of filmmaking camps in Newport
and Lincoln, the Bristol camp is based at the Colt
School auditorium at 570 Hope Street.
"Participating filmmakers will attend workshops in
acting, directing, makeup, screenwriting,
storyboarding and videography," says Sharp.
"They'll be shooting a variety of group projects,
including a special Kid Filmmakers movie trailer
with a patriotic theme." Faculty members are
experienced film industry professionals with
credits from MGM Pictures, Paramount, Warner
Brothers, Dreamworks, Discovery Channel, NBC, PBS,
ESPN, TNN, Turner Broadcasting, AOL/Time Warner and
more.
The
cost for the one-week program is $345 per
participant ($320 for Kid Filmmakers Club members)
which includes a VHS copy of film projects, Kid
Filmmakers Club membership card and newsletter
subscription, a fun wrap party and free "Gourmet"
tickets to attend the summer camp movie premiere at
the Flying Popcorn! International Children's Film
Festival in Newport on Sunday, February 27, 2005.
