SUMMER SHOOT

You get to make three movies in one week! No, you're not dreaming. Each Kid Filmmakers crew produces their own documentary, video blog and their choice of either a drama or comedy. Not bad for a 5-day camp, eh?

You'll write your own movies! Yes, you (with your fellow filmmakers) will plan, write and produce your own big ideas. So don't worry that you're going to get stuck producing some boring, adult-written screenplay. As they say in the movies (okay, we don't remember which one), "It ain't gonna happen."

You'll learn from the best! Sure, we have high standards. That's why our summer shoots are taught by professional filmmakers who either own their own production companies or have extensive film or television experience. In fact, our instructors are not only knowledgeable but they're also pretty fun to hang out with. (And if we had a dime for everytime an instructor said, "Gee, I wish I had Kid Filmmakers when I was their age!"...)

You'll meet the pros. Our guest speakers have plenty of tales to share, from how they got involved in the movie biz to which big name superstars they've worked with. (Ever hear of Clint Eastwood, Jim Carrey, Robin Williams or Catherine Zeta-Jones?) Among others, we've welcomed an award-winning documentary filmmaker, a successful costume designer, a film location manager, a 14-year old Lego animation winner and the Executive Director of the Rhode Island Film and Television Office.

You won't be stuck in some classroom all day! At our Newport, Rhode Island shoot, for example, we have the beautiful City-by-the-Sea completely at our disposal. (Talk about a film-friendly city!) Locations have included: ballfields, gymnasiums, playgrounds, swimming pools, clothing stores, parks, churches, cemeteries, haunted inns, Queen Anne's Square, Gateway Visitors Center, Touro Park (next to the mysterious Stone Tower which some believe was erected by the Vikings), the Newport waterfront, Aquidneck Lobster Company, the Spirit of Newport--even a millionaire's yacht.
